Know about

Lab Grown Diamonds

  • What are LAB Grown Diamonds?

Lab Grown Diamonds are just like test tube babies grown from a single seed of Diamond under the same heat and pressure like in the crust of mother earth. They are ecologically friendly as they do not scar the earth with mining. Since they avoid the stigma of blood-diamonds there has been a worldwide acceptance for this category. And, most importantly, they are more uniform, yet cheaper than earth-mined diamonds.

    Is it a REAL Diamond?

Yes it is a real diamond, even the most sophisticated gem laboratories certify it as diamonds. The only difference is the origin of these diamonds, instead of being mined from the earth they are Grown under controlled environment in a lab.

Fiona brings you exquisite collection of designer jewellery studded with sparkling lab grown diamonds with 100% buy back!

    Lab Grown Diamonds
    Conflict Free Diamonds

How is it different from Moissanites?

Moissanites are just another gemstones which have properties similar to a diamond and in case of solitaires they are still the best option to go for since solitaires of lab grown diamonds are still quite expensive and are around 50% price of Mined diamonds while Moissanites are only 10% of mined diamonds.

What is the buy back / resale of LAB grown diamonds?

Fiona offers a 100% buy back on all its jewellery which applies for the lab grown diamonds collection also. Apart from this there is a world market with many players dealing in grown diamonds now so the consumer can sell their lab grown diamond jewellery to anyone around the world.

Is it available in all color and clarity?

Yes lab grown diamonds are available in all color and clarity just like mined diamonds but Fiona believes in quality and so with Fiona jewellery we use only EF Color and VVS – VS clarity with excellent cut to give the best to its clients.

But it is made in the lab so how can it be REAL Diamond?

Even test tube babies are made in the lab but they are real so similarly these diamonds are grown from a single carbon seed and have exactly the same features and properties like that of a mined diamonds. Moreover, certificate from renowned labs also certify them as Diamonds and not as FAKE Diamonds or cubic zirconia. Apart from that they have a buy back which is never valid on fake diamonds.

Does it fade or become cloudy with time?

No! it stays forever just like a mined diamond.

  • How are Lab Grown Diamonds Created

It took almost 60 years of effort to develop the precision to grow gemstone quality diamonds. Because the processes are similar to natural growth, there are still variations in color and clarity of grown diamonds. In other words, not all lab grown diamonds are colorless and flawless.

Today, there are two methods of growing diamond gemstones:

    • High Pressure-High Temperature(HPHT):

HPHT diamond growth occurs within massive pressure cookers. Small diamond seeds are placed into a growth cell, and then graphite is inserted on top of the diamond seeds. The pressure cooker is heated to 1500 degrees C and pressurized to approximately 70,000 times the pressure at sea level. At this extreme temperature and pressure, the graphite in the growth cell is melted into liquid carbon and then carefully cooled into the strongest form of carbon, a diamond crystal.

    • Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD):

CVD diamond growth occurs within vacuum plasma reactors. Thin diamond plates are placed in a growth cell, and then hydrocarbon gas is injected on top of the diamond plates. High power microwaves break the bonds of the hydrocarbon gas, separating the carbon atoms from the hydrogen atoms. The resulting free carbon within the reactor ‘precipitates’ onto the diamond plates, similar to the way that snowflakes collects on a table, vertically growing the diamond atom by atom. The resulting CVD diamonds are then subjected to extreme pressure to ‘compress’ the CVD diamond, like a footprint compresses snow. This additional step improves the quality of the diamond crystal, giving the diamond better color and light performance.

In recent years, CVD research has gained popularity and now modified versions of CVD are being used. These processes differ in the means by which chemical reactions are initiated. Some of these variations include:

    • Low-pressure CVD (LPCVD)
    • Low-pressure CVD (LPCVD)
    • Low-pressure CVD (LPCVD)
